How to Appear on Google Maps

Quick Answer

To appear on Google Maps, you need a free Google Business Profile. Once verified, your business shows up in Google Maps and in the local "Map Pack" results when people search for businesses near them.

1.Go to business.google.com

Navigate to Google's Business Profile manager.

2.Click "Manage now" and sign in

Use a Google account you own (ideally a business-specific one).

3.Enter your business name

If your business already exists, claim it. If not, select "Add your business to Google."

4.Choose your business category

Pick the most accurate primary category (e.g., "Plumber," "Hair salon," "Restaurant"). This heavily influences which searches you show up for.

5.Add your location or service area

If customers visit you, add your address. If you go to customers (like a contractor or cleaner), select "I deliver goods and services to my customers" and define your service area by city or zip code.

6.Add your phone number and website

Fill in your contact details completely.

7.Verify your business

Google will verify you own the business, usually by sending a postcard with a PIN to your address, or via phone/email for some businesses. This step is required before you appear on Maps.

8.Complete your profile

Add photos, business hours, a description, and your services. Profiles that are 100% complete rank significantly higher.

Tip: Google Maps ranking depends on three things: relevance (does your profile match the search?), distance (how close are you?), and prominence (how many reviews do you have?). Start collecting reviews from day one.
